One Hundred Year Ocean -  Poison Smoak

For the inaugural post on this blog, I am happy to showcase a new release that is not only great musically, but focuses heavily on the “trees” part of treemo. One Hundred Year Ocean is a CT-based project from marijuana enthusiast Derrick of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die. The band also features Josh, the bassist of TWIABP, and members of other Connecticut Bands like The Book Slave, I’m ok., and Lion Cub.

The 4 dank jams on this EP (kicking off with the sounds of an apparently rather harsh hit of something equally dank) make for an enjoyable 11 minute experience. Fans of sister band The World is… will probably feel immediately comfortable listening, as the two bands share many musical elements, although OHYO’s sound is a little more earthy and grounded in indie rock stylings.

As for why this release is appearing on this blog, a quick glance at the online-r notes will reveal that cannabis makes its way into the lyrics of 3 of the songs, and the remaining one starts off with the aforementioned sound clip of toking. The EP title is a not-very-opaque weed pun. The band’s facebook page lists their “Band interests” as “weed and sometimes not.” This release came out yesterday but I’m already calling it as a future treemo classic.

There you can download it for free if you desire, or you can decide to throw them a couple of bucks if you’re able to (help them keep their stash stocked. times are tough out there but weed is recession-proof.) No matter how you decide to get it, download this EP now, rip a bong, and blast the smooth sounds of One Hundred Year Ocean.
